Meet the guide in the hotel lobby then depart on a half day tour.

Visit Daphne Sheldrick orphanage. This visit takes place from 11:00am to 1200pm. Travel to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, also known as the Elephant Orphanage. It is widely known the damage that poachers have done, and keep doing, to the elephant population (as well as other animals, like rhinos).  In an effort to save the baby elephants that are orphaned due to poacher’s attacks, the Sheldrick Trust takes charge of being their “adoptive mother” and taking care of them 24/7 – feeding them, making sure they are warm enough, or cold enough if it is too warm, playing with them, and giving them lots of love! The only time that is possible to see the elephants is from 11am to 12 noon. This is the time when the keepers bring the elephants to a cordoned area to play, feed, and to show the public how well they are doing. While you don’t get to feed the elephants, if they get close to you, you can touch and pet them. But, just being there, watching them playing happily with each other and listening to their story, is quite a movie experience. Continue to visit the Giraffe center and get the opportunity to get up close and personal with these friendly giants. Established by Jock Leslie-Melville in 1979, the centre's main purpose is to protect and help in the breeding of the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. During a visit to the centre, you will be able to interact with and feed the Giraffes from a raised observation platform. These platforms allow the visitors to come eye-to-eye with the Giraffes. The centre also has a large auditorium where you can listen to talks about Giraffe conservation and a various activities the centre is involved in. As part of a community outreach program, the centre also displays a number of art pieces done by the local school children during the annual environmental competition. The funds from the purchasing of the artwork goes to funding an ecological trip programme for underprivileged children. Also found at the centre is a 95 acre nature sanctuary. The sanctuary consists of an indigenous forest comprised of Ngong and Ololua forest and a seasonal river; the Gogo River. Visitors can take a 1.5 kilometre (0.93 miles) wander through the thick forest and bushland and view the various animals including Warthogs, Monkeys, Squirrels and Bushbuck. The walk also offers excellent bird watching opportunities.

After lunch at Tamambo restaurant, visit the Karen Blixen museum then return to the hotel.

This evening we shall enjoy our welcome dinner at the hotel.

The waters of the great Ewaso Nyiro river, dotted with doum palms meanders through the reserve giving it an oasis setting and draws wildlife in great numbers to its banks. The verdant riverine forest is a stark contrast to the arid thorn studded plains. Samburu is visited by large herds of Elephants, drawn by the promise of water. In the dry season, the elephants use their tusks to dig deep into the dry river beds, unearthing precious water. These waterholes then become a focal point for other game. The Samburu region is the best place to find several endemic Northern species; including the Gerenuk (Twiga gazelle) due to her long neck, the beisa Oryx, the Reticulated Giraffe, the Somali ostrich and Grevy’s Zebra. Samburu is also an ornithological paradise, home to many birds including local species such as the Palm Nut Vulture and the Vinaceous Dove. Leopards are often seen at dusk. The Samburu culture is a truly fascinating one, sharing a great deal of ancestral and linguistic ties to the Maasai. The entire Samburu region is a place of breath-taking and magical beauty, a place where the vision of a deep red sunset silhouetting the doum palms along the river as a leopard emerges to hunt brings the perfect end to a day on safari.

Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES (Extra cost):
Today’s adventure begins just before dawn. Flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crew inflate their craft. The first, pink tongues of sunlight flicker across the skies and the hot air balloon fills then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-coloured canopy, you're off for a game-viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. Apart from the occasional hiss of the burners, a lion's roar, elephants crashing through the bush, baboons perched in the tips of the trees startled and screeching to see something above them, the flight above the Masai Mara plains is magically silent. At the end of the flight, the passengers are treated to a champagne breakfast in the bush, complete with flowers. China and crystal are set out on the table that is placed under a convenient acacia tree. The finishing touch to the flight is a game drive back to the camp, and the possibility of seeing the same pride of lions, or herd of elephants that had been viewed while ballooning. A flight certificate is issued on completion of the balloon safari. Back at Camp enjoy a sumptuous lunch and a well-deserved rest. And/or enjoy a visit to a traditional Masai Manyatta. Experience the culture of this world famous community - the Maasai still lives as they did for centuries; interact with these nomadic people and experience their way of life as you learn about their customs and traditions. Continue with your afternoon game viewing drive before returning to your camp for dinner and overnight.
