Information for Travellers During COVID-19

Here are some important things to consider when planning a trip during these uncertain times…

The Canadian Government has issued a Travel Advisory against any Non-Essential Travel outside Canada, that could change at any time.

This means so many things:

  • You are required by law to self-quarantine for 14 days upon return to Canada if you are NOT fully vaccinated.

  • Mandatory COVID-19 testing is now in effect and a negative PCR test, taken within 72 hours prior to departure, will be required for air travelers flying to Canada from another country. The test result must be presented to the airline prior to boarding.

  • Travellers returning to Canada must now submit COVID-related information digitally. Use ArriveCAN to comply with the new mandatory requirements.

  • Upon arrival in Canada by air, you must take a COVID-19 PCR test

  • NOT fully Vaccinated Travellers must collect a test kit for later use (Day-8) during your mandatory quarantine.

  • If you decide to travel at this time, some insurance companies will cover you for Covid-19 related medical expenses but the amount they will cover may not be sufficient, depending on level of treatment required.

  • If the Canadian Government shuts the borders down again suddenly, you are on your own. They have stated there won't be repatriation flights home for travellers that decided to take non-essential travel against the government advisory.

  • If you book something right now, it's important to know the terms and conditions. If it gets canceled, you will receive either a full refund or very likely a future travel credit that you must use with that supplier only.
  • Many countries have changed their entry rules with 24 – 48 hours notice, and you must be prepared things like this will continue to happen. This could mean that you may be required to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival at your own expense, fill out online travel or health forms and possibly have to quarantine upon arrival.

Check if your travel is exempt from quarantine

Check if you qualify as fully vaccinated

Those who meet the requirements for Fully Vaccinated Travellers may be exempt from:

  • quarantine
  • day-8 testing requirement

Unvaccinated children under the age of 12, who are travelling with fully vaccinated travelers:

•        must follow all testing requirements for pre-entry, arrival and Day-8 tests (unless under the age of 5)

•        are exempt from quarantine as long as they follow the public health requirements outlined in the handout provided at the border

Unvaccinated youth aged 12 through 17 must follow all testing and quarantine requirements, whether or not they are accompanied by travellers who qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption.

No exceptions for partially-vaccinated or non-vaccinated travelers

At this time, there are no exemptions from testing or quarantine for travelers who haven't received the full series of a vaccine or a combination of vaccines accepted by the Government of Canada.

Before You Travel

  • Fully vaccinated travellers must have your Proof of Vaccination
  • Get your pre-entry COVID-19 test

  • On day 8 of your quarantine, you will take another test, following the instructions provided to you. You must stay in your place of quarantine while you await the results from this test and complete your 14 day quarantine

Here is a list of some of our most frequently asked travel questions:

What if my Canada-bound flight is delayed?

Under these rules, your results must come from a PCR or RT-LAMP test that was taken within three days (72 hours) of your scheduled departure date and time, even if the departure is delayed so that your test falls beyond those 72 hours. You would have to make a new appointment and pay to get a new test taken.

What happens if I’m in destination and I test positive for COVID-19?

If your test results are positive, you won't be allowed to board that scheduled flight and you will be required to quarantine in destination for 14 days. You will then need provide proof of that positive test, conducted between 14 and 90 days prior to departure, to board your flight home. The government is aware that people can test positive long after they have recovered & are no longer contagious.

Will I still be required to self quarantine for 14 days when I return home to Canada?

Fully vaccinated travellers are exempt for the 14-day quarantine if they meet the government requirements.

At this time, the 14-day self-quarantine rules remain in effect for not fully vaccinated travellers.

Should I be booking for next winter?

The airlines have released their current schedules for winter 2021/2022 but the government hasn't announced if it will be lifting travel restrictions or imposing additional ones.

This is a great time to take advantage of locking in some good pricing while getting excellent change and cancellation terms.

Prices are going up and availability is going down.
Our flights this winter are much more limited than usual any they are filling up.
The most popular resorts and room categories are selling out already too.

If you are thinking about a group vacation or destination wedding, now is a good time to give us a call so we can help you start the planning process.

Cruise itineraries, rail vacations and tours can be booked up to 2 years in advance. If these types of trips are on your future travel list, now is a good time to secure them with a small deposit.

When will you start posting deals for next winter?

We have started a private Facebook group that is devoted exclusively to travel packages and special promotions. This is where we will be posting the great pricing that we find for future travel.

Do you think we will be able to travel next winter without restrictions?

I wish we had a crystal ball, lol! This is a very fluid situation but the travel industry, as a whole, is planning for everyone to be travelling sooner than later. It truly is a case of plan for the worst & hope for the best.

Will the travel industry be okay after all of this? Will flights, resorts, prices etc. ever be back to what they were?

The travel industry has been hit hard. No one can really guess what travel & pricing will look like on the other side of this pandemic. Pricing usually follows demand – if prices are over-inflated, people will simply not be booking and the travel industry will take that into account. For those of us who live in the Prairies, there is a very real possibility that we will be taking connector flights to our favorite hot destinations until travel restrictions are off and business picks up again.
